Passion Guide
Design
Brief
"
Our goal is to create a unique passion guide centered on a topic of your interest, with complex type and image information in an 8-inch x 8-inch folded booklet. To make sense of your content, you will fully research, sketch, and diagram the information to design your project in a visually interesting and easy-to-understand format.

Inspiration
Naturally, I started on Pinterest for inspiration. Living in San Diego also inspired this passion guide, as I am a surfer and surrounded by surf culture. At this time, I was also taking a class on the Sociology of Surfing, which increased my interest in the subject.

Sketches
I started thinking about the cover first. I felt this would provide the base design for the guide. I was inspired by sports magazines, which blended sport and graphic elements.

Cover Design
I began importing my illustrations into Adobe and playing with negative space, figures, and typography. Here, I was able to accomplish my final cover design.

Layout Design
I knew the guide needed to include various elements: location, information, graphic elements, and hierarchy. To satisfy these requirements, I divided California into its three prominent regions: Northern, Central, and Southern. Each region showcases seven surf locations. On the following page is a map of that region with each location highlighted. Quotes from famous surfers and aquatic people are honored in this design.

Final Design & App
After receiving feedback, critiquing, and revising, I created my final adaptation of this passion guide. Additionally, I created a subsequent app made through Figma as an extension of this guide. This way, users can use the platform to share their own aquatic experiences or honor the nature around them.
